Our 2023 Annual Appeal

At the Franklin Food Bank we recognize that families facing a food crisis are actually facing a financial crisis. This means on a daily basis families are making impossible choices about how to prioritize spending. Most often food – the most flexible variable on a household budget – is what gets cut.

Research shows when this occurs, individuals are likely to suffer from a lack of adequate nutrition and are unlikely to have medical insurance or a safety net for one of life’s expensive disasters for either themselves or their children.

Our approach to food security is as holistic as possible – as emerging evidence suggests, it takes more than food to solve hunger. And so at the Franklin Food Bank, we’re doing more. This year, we are serving 52% more families over last year in our pantry while simultaneously running community food distributions, supporting other food pantries in our Beyond Borders program and even running a backpack program in local schools. On top of all of this, the Franklin Food Bank recently launched wraparound services that include nutrition education, mobile cancer and health screening and assistance with signing up for government programs like SNAP and WIC. No longer can we continue treating the symptoms of a chronic problem and expecting lasting results. We can – and must – do better.

When problem solving, we all must make an effort to listen to those who are the closest to the problem. Franklin Food Bank serves clients directly, requests feedback from clients directly, always listening to find ways to help. The results of our work speak for themselves. As our tagline – neighbors helping neighbors – suggests, we need everyone to support the work we are doing. So today will you be a great neighbor by making a gift to the Franklin Food Bank? Join us and be a part of the solution to make our community better. We are in this together.
